Journal entry
I have seen several horrifying things in my years at Hogwarts.

I watched Tom get extreme pleasure out of torturing the critters we would use at times in class for various charm practices. Once when we were working on silencing charms he set the poor mouse afire. Swore it was an accident, but I knew better. He always did have that far away look in his eyes as if he were somewhere no one would dare to follow.

I watched as they took the young Hufflepuff's body out the day she died. I held one young girl against my chest when she unexpectedly turned the corner to the horrific sight. I had to escort her to the Hospital Wing so they could give her some calming potion.

I helped to council 5th trough 7th years as they came to grips with the deaths of their former housemates. Gryffindor took so hard the year Lily and James died.

Still, nothing has chilled me more than what I see today. I can't stand looking out my window anymore because I can see them passing along the outside wall. While I've never had to actually deal with the Dementors I can't imagine how the Ministy can justify placing them just outside. The students are scared. One of my prefects brought me two first year girls the other night who were scared out of their wits the other night by a cat's shadow. For the first time in the history of my tenure I'm actually considering handing out night lights.

Filius always loved these last few days prior to the beginning of term. The castle seemed to burst at the seams with anticipation while still holding the reverent silence that made the halls seem just as majestic as he imagined they did in the first days of their existence. Reveling in the silence, he'd tucked the latest issue of Charm Challenge under his cloak for the walk from his quarters to the teacher's lounge.

Pushing the door open, his nostrils were flooded with the pleasant aroma of freshly brewed coffee. The diligent of the Hogwart's house elves was a refreshing reminder of how much work they all put into making the school the best it could be for the students. He tossed his magazine on one of the tables before making his way over to the coffee urn. Had Hogwarts not so many needs an elf might have been readily available to fix a cup for Filius exactly as he liked it. However, fixing a cup of his own was a small price to pay when considering all the important upkeep that might be ignored had he insisted on the presence of an elf to bring him his brew.

Once Filius had gotten the perfect mixture of milk and sugar in his cup he turned his attention back to the flimsy book he'd placed on the table. As he sat, he flipped the pages open to the section entitled Clumsy Wands where witches and wizards shared some of their most embarrassing moments. While reading silently he laughed out loud at the story in front of him.

Filius nodded to each student as they approached to receive their end of camp certificates. He beamed each time one of them turned to the audience with an exhibition of one of their new found skills. Now, listening to the entire village clap as the last pair of students turned to bow after their duel, he smiled glad he had given up the seminar circuit to return home to the love of his mother's people.

As he cleared the stage area he had been so graciously allowed to use for the end of camp ceremony one of his brightest students approached. "Mr. Filius, I want to thank you for all you have done for me. Next year when I am too old to participate in your camps I will watch with pride knowing you took your time to be with us when you could have been with human wizards."

Filius simply nodded as he thanked the boy while fighting back tears of pride for the young man. Yes, these youngsters were nothing like his students. They would never be as masterful with a wand as a human witch or wizard, but his heart swelled knowing he had made at least one of them feel they held equal footing.

It was with mixed emotions that he sat on his front porch in his small rocking chair. While he reveled in the acceptance of this community he also wondered how his friends had spent their summer. Had Albus perfected his wizard’s chess strategy? Had Minerva found an audience for her unique sense of humor? And Severus, had he found a way to confront the demons that always seemed to plaque him?

His mind continued to wander through his fellow staff members, past and present and before he realized the sun was well below the horizon and the stars were high above him. His old bones creaked as he stood slowly. Taking a deep breath of fresh country air, Filius stretched on the porch before turning to walk into the house. He knew he needed to get a good night's sleep. He had to start packing up tomorrow as it wouldn't be much longer before he was summoned to Hogwarts for the start of term staff meetings.

I am officially putting Flitwick on Hiatus until the next school term begins. I'm not sure whether I'll actually keep him or not seeing as there does not seem to be much interest in the community where actual classes are concerned.

Tired of all the pranks that were going on, the professor decided it was time for a house meeting. Being the smartest of all the houses, he expected his student's to uphold themselves with more dignity than what had been displayed by the student body as of late.

2nd year Hufflepuff and Gryffindor
[ooc: Yeah, I'm pulling out the audition post finally. I've been wanting to use it but hadn't had a dead Thursday or Friday when I was supposed to update him. So, here it is, enjoy.]

Professor Flitwick walked around the room of second years watching them as they attempted to ripen apples that had been plucked from trees in the orchard near the greenhouses too early. He sighed to himself thinking of how wonderful it was that Professor Sprout would cultivate the fruit for his scheduled lessons.

He came back to reality pausing to listen to a student before correcting their enunciation. "It's a long i at the front of the word," he stated before modeling the spell again for the student. "Mitis pomum".

The skin of the apple changed from its green/red mix to brilliant red in a matter of seconds. Professor Flitwick picked the apple up and bit into it. "Perfect," he smiled as the sweet juice was caught in his beard.

He waved his wand and all the ripened or rotted apples flew into their respective bins in the front of the room. "One house point per each apple properly ripened within the next ten minutes," he stated. "Beginning now."

Professor Flitwick watched as the last of his fourth year class left the room. When he had noticed Mr. Anderson's absence at the beginning of class, he had owled Pomfrey to see if he was in the hosptial wing.

As he returned to his desk to begin looking over their parchments, an small brown owl flew in with a note for him. He read the note quickly and a scowl spread across his usually jovial face. He then proceeded to write a note for the little owl to carry.

Professors in Hogsmeade
Filius enjoyed the student trips to Hogsmeade even though he was required to spend part of the time walking around making sure everyone was behaving properly. Still, the best part was sitting in the Three Broomsticks drinking butterbeer with his collegues.

Flitwick finished his rounds by picking up some peppermint sticks in Honeydukes. He noted the time and made his way to the tavern. He waved cheerily at Madame Rosemerta as he found his way to the staff's favorite table and waited for the others to arrive.

Professor Flitwick both hated Monday's and enjoyed them. He hated them for the occassional ticked off student or forced detention he was required to hold. He enjoyed them for they offered more free time than did any other day.

He sat in his office grading papers and humming a merry little tune wondering what today would bring.

[ooc:yeah, this sucks for him, but today is mostly office hours so someone stop by with a question or something.]

"Next week I want a foot of parchment each describing four different climate based charms." Professor Flitwick wrapped up the 5th year Gryffindor and Slytherin class with the same assignment he had given to his Tuesday 5th year class.

As the students were leaving the professor perked his voice above the din, "Mr. Longbottom, I need to see you for a few minutes once everyone has left."

6th and 7th years (house points available)
Professor Flitwick stood on the stool in the front of the classroom and began his lecture.Collapse )

ooc: Housepoints will only be turned in for comments made through Sunday. Remember to be realistic as you comment. Have fun with this. Take it out into the school. Heck use it to annoy your other teachers and try not to get caught.

[Edit] For threads, if you choose to knock someone's specific fuzz ball out of the air, please reply to them sending it up. When you send one up start a new tread for yourself and continue to send new ones underneath your original thread.

Professor Flitwick was reviewing this week's lesson plan for Third year.

They would begin by practicing wingardium leviosa. He was certain that several students would be rusty as they probaby didn't use the spell on a regular basis. He would be certain to give house points to any student who used impervious to ward off any ill-fated balloons.

Finally, they would work on drying themselves off using tergeo and their homework would be a foot of parchment describing the various other uses of the spell.

He giggled merrily to himself as he continued to fill up balloons that would no doubt be sheer torture to some of his students while pure fun for others.

ooc: Any third years feel free to use this to start a post on Monday or Thursday.

Also, if anyone wants to stop by his office while he's working feel free.
